Lexella had just gotten back from a hunt with one of her 'Brothers'. Not real brothers of course, no, one of her hive brothers. She'd met them about three years ago, after her 'Sister' Katerina had saved her. The man of the hive had actually been the one to save her, since he rescued her from execution. Bravely he gave his life so she could begin hers, as a vampire. At first it was hard, the Kennedy clan didn't drink human blood. They mostly feasted on livestock or other larger animals. Which for a newly turned vampire was extremely difficult. Every day she'd suffer the burning in her throat, the lust for human blood eating away at her. Nala, their 'Mother' helped her, nurtured her, and kept her on the right path. Which was exactly why Lexella took to doing that with any and all the monsters in the den. She'd made it her mission to help them all, good or bad either way she'd help.
It wasn't long after they'd arrived that she was called for, a shifter with a silver knife stuck in his chest. Without proper treatment, he very well may die.
Her name echoed through the small room, everyone calling for the "Skilled vampire doctor." A nickname most of the weaker creatures gave her, not that she really minded. She quickly slipped a hair band off her wrist and tied up the long brown locks that framed her perfectly sculpted face. Her hands gently pressing around the knife, whoever this hunter was, was clearly no amateur. It was close to a centimeter away from his heart. His breathy pleads for her to save him could have been enough to break her heart, but it couldn't. She couldn't afford to sit and feel guilty, and she couldn't do this alone.
She firmly commanded one of her aids to keep the knife very still, there was one person she needed to help her. Her dear friend Sabine.
Her long legs got her to the witch in record time, a smile on her lips as she spoke. "Feel like helping me save a shifter today Bean?" She asked, knowing full well Sabine would never say no to her.

Sabine was lounging in the park that was located at the very center of the Den. It was one of her favorite places. Daemon was lurking nearby. She could feel his presence through the strong bond they shared so even though he was off doing his own errands around the Den, he was close enough that she could feel him still. It was always a relief to be close enough to her guardian. He gave her a sense of strength and comfort even though she didn't need it. She was a powerful witch and could protect herself. Most monsters in the Den knew better than to mess with an old world witch with a familiar as powerful as Daemon. As a familiar was only a reflection of a witch's inner power, one look at Daemon was enough to let everyone know the power Sabine held.
Looking up when she felt a familiar presence nearby, Sabine gave a small, crooked, smile to the vampire that suddenly stood in front of her. Lex was a close friend of hers, one of the only ones she had really. She was a closed off person naturally and distant due to her past. It took a determined and stubborn kind of person to really get through to her as Sabine was so used to pushing people away and keeping them at arm's distance.
Her nose wrinkled up in a disgusted way at the nickname the pretty vampire used. "Bean." Only two people had ever been allowed to call her that. Daemon and Lexella. She'd hex the hell out of anyone else who tried to call her that ugly nickname. Daemon had started the trend, calling her little Bean when he'd first found her at the young age of 14.
"No." Sabine said smoothly even as she stood and stretched out her long and slender body. She puffed her cheeks out and then sighed softly, sending out her thoughts to Daemon to let him know where she was going. She got a soft growl sounding in her mind in answer. He hated shapeshifters. They tended to be violent and he wasn't a fan of sending her alone to dangerous situations. She calmed him by letting him know she'd be with Lex. Daemon trusted the vampire and his trust was a rare thing. "What happened to the sewer rat?" She asked, nose wrinkling again. It was common knowledge that shapeshifters often hid out and lived in sewers.

Lexella rarely asked anyone for help, always claiming she could do it alone. The only person she'd ever ask was Sabine. Aside from Katerina, she was one of the first people to help her adjust to this life, to the Den. At first, like every monster here, Sabine pushed her away, Lexella on the other hand clung to Sabine and Daemon. She wasn't going to be shoo'd off so easily. An instinct inside her told her to stick with them, even though others had warned her of their dark magic. To each their own she always thought, if Sabine wanted to practice that style, Lex would turn the other way.
So I was no surprise to either of them when Lex asked Sabine for help. An innocent smile on her face as the tall witch stood to join her. The fact that she didn't want to help, but was caused a giggle to bubble from Lexella's lips. Her comment about the sewer rat getting her too. "Oh come on, they aren't that bad. This one is kind cute, maybe you should get his number?" She teased, knowing full well Sabine's issue with Shape shifters.
"Looks like he had a run in with a slightly skilled Hunter, the silver knife is too close to his heart for my skills." She explains, her large brown eyes looking over to her friend. Lexella could usually get what she wanted, or needed. Not in a way that she was spoiled, she just had a way of getting people to help her. Another reason she felt the urge to help anyone around her.

Sabine scoffed softly as she listened to her friend chatter on about the shapeshifter, rolling her eyes at the round, doe-like, eyes that flashed her way. She couldn't stand all the begging and she always gave in to the persistent vampire. It wasn't the first time that Lex had come to Sabine asking for her help and it definitely wouldn't be the last. Even though she mostly practiced black magic, Sabine had been raised only knowing white magic until she turned 14 and her mother was killed. It meant that she was exceptionally skilled at the type of magic that Lex often needed when injuries were to severe for her to fix naturally.
"Yeah, I'll give him something." Sabine muttered darkly, eyes narrowing at even the thought of giving her number to some disgusting shifter. Nuh uh, no way, not happening. She wasn't much into anyone these days. She'd always been closed off and Dæmon scared off most casual encounters she'd might of had. Thank you Dæmon for that. Not like she minded too much really. She was a very private person, cold and distant, and most people found her intimidating. For some reason, even surrounded by monsters, her black magic was still feared.
Listening to what had happened to the shifter, Sabine got a little more anxious. One of the reasons she'd agreed to help Lex, aside from the fact that she couldn't say no to her, was that she was worried why a hunter was so close to the Den. The location of the Den was a jealously guarded secret and since her arrival, Sabine had been instrumental in keeping that secret. She executed monsters that put others at risk and she regularly redid the wards that kept the Den a secret. She was descended from old world witches and her line coursed with powerful magic. One of her ancestors had actually helped build the original wards. Her magic was one of the few strong enough to strengthen the weakening borders. When she had been brought to the Den, the wards were barely kept in place with weak magic. Her magic and spells kept them strong. She was more interested in questioning the shifter than helping the thing.
"Mhmm, I'll help heal him." Sabine said, crossing her delicate arms and arching a slender brow up sharply as she walked beside Lex. "But whether he lives much longer after that depends on how he got that silver blade in his heart. Why was a hunter so close to the Den?" Sabine shot at Lex, genuinely concerned and curious about the answer. Everyone knew Sabine wouldn't hesitate to kill any monster that threatened the haven of the Den. It was her place in the community. She was the guardian, of sorts.

Lexella knew how Sabine felt about hunters, she'd witnessed first hand Sabine executing a few monsters that had brought a hunter within miles of the den. She didn't mind though, any monster dumb enough to hunt close to the Den deserved it. This shifter however was merely a teen. "He's young Bean, he probably just got scared." She admitted, knowing full well the poor thing would face her wrath.
Lex had only ever encountered two hunters, a husband and wife. They had vowed to protect Lex after she saved their daughter. She remembered thinking even then, how dumb could they be to live that life with children. The little girl was having a face off with a werewolf, of course she couldn't fend for herself. So Lexella did what she always did, protected and served. Good little soldier she was.
Her clan always hated hunters however, so they were less than pleased when she'd admitted letting them go. Their motto was if you can kill them. The only humans they'd ever kill, hunters. She hated it though, she didn't want to hurt anyone. Of course she could easily kill you with the flick of her wrist, she'd been trained. Of course with Sabine by her side they were next to unstoppable.
"Be easy on him, he's scared." She said softly, her tone more gentle this time.

Sabine rolled her hazel eyes at the leggy vampire walking beside her as she talked about going easy on the child. She held no sympathy for him. Her walking paused as she huffed at Lex. "No, don't 'Bean' me over this. Young or not, scared or not, this child could be responsible for bringing down every hunter in the world on us. How many innocent children would die then? How many monsters just wanting to live in peace? If this young boy did something to jeopardize us, you know what must happen." Sabine would kill the monster and then, posing as a hunter since she was technically human, she'd spread the word that she'd killed the shifter in that area so whatever hunter had been after the thing would stop searching the area. It was her duty to keep the Den safe and she took it seriously.
"Might I remind you that I was nothing but a child when a hunter murdered my mother and would have taken me out too if they'd known I existed? The things hunting us don't take mercy on children and neither can we. Not if we want to survive." Sabine said, her voice harsh and sharp. Too anyone else she would've sounded angry and uncaring about the children. But Lex was one of two people that knew her well enough to know that killing children, even a shifter child, was not her favorite thing to do. It bothered her if the creature she had to kill was under 16. But she would do it, none the less. Someone had to.
"You be gentle, I'll be fair." Sabine said with a final toss of her hair, silently following Lexella the rest of the way to where the young shifter was waiting for them. She'd heal the thing and then question it. If found guilty of endangering the Den, Sabine would end the creature's miserable existence for the safety of all the other miserable existences that depended on the Den for peaceful living.
For Sabine, they were a part of a war and war demanded swift and fair action for the better of all the lives involved.
